Half Acre Gym
This project was designed as a renovation and addition of the historic Half Acre Gym on the University of Wyoming Campus. Phase I consisted of the demolition and reconstruction of the east portion of the building. Construction included a 101,000 square foot addition/new build of the relocated Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms adjacent to the pool; 10,300 square foot Fitness Area; Climbing and Bouldering Walls with Observation Decks; (4) Racquetball Courts; Multi-Activity Gym consisting of (2) courts; Dance, Group Exercise and Spinning Rooms; and an expansion of the existing running track which more than doubles the length to (8) laps per mile; offices, classrooms and support spaces.
Phase II included the full renovation of the 40,500 square foot historic portion of the building, which was dedicated in 1925 and long served as the eastern anchor of the main campus in Laramie. This area includes relocated offices, conference rooms and a new classroom in place of the original locker rooms; renovated 17,836 square foot gymnasium which houses (3) courts; over 2,000 square feet of new Fitness areas; and the existing portion of the newly expanded running track.
